Sir Isaac Newton (1643-1727) was an English mathematician, physicist, and astronomer who is widely recognized as one of the most influential scientists of all time. He laid the foundation for classical physics with his groundbreaking work, Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy), published in 1687.

In it, he formulated the laws of motion and universal gravitation, which dominated the scientific view of the physical universe for the next three centuries. He also made seminal contributions to mathematics, most notably through the development of calculus, and to optics, where he demonstrated that white light is composed of the colors of the spectrum.

Famously described by a poet as a figure who "forged the sword others would use," Newton's work provided the tools and laws that would shape scientific inquiry until the era of Einstein. His intense curiosity and solitary dedication cemented his legacy as a paramount figure of the Scientific Revolution.
