The best-known novel by well-acclaimed Polish author is "Solaris". However, I recommend you to check out his other great work, "The Invincible". The story is simple: a rescue mission is sent after a scout ship that was supposed to survey the planet, but never reported back. The crew of the rescue ship quickly discovers that the planet is dangereous - however the twists should surprise even veteran SF readers.
The book has qome quick action and is a bit less philosophical, then other Lem works. Also, the game adaptation of the novel is coming, so it might be worth to give it a try!
