Resolution criteria
Marathon's Metacritic Metascore on March 12th, 2026 will be the resolution value. The score will be determined by checking Metacritic's Marathon page on Thursday, March 12th, 2026 at 11:59 PM CDT. The market resolves to the Metascore (critic aggregate score) displayed on that date, rounded to the nearest integer if necessary.
Background
Marathon launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on Thursday, March 5, 2026. The game is being developed as a multiplayer extraction shooter with a focus on player versus player (PvP) gameplay, and loot extraction mechanics. Marathon is developed and published by Bungie, the studio behind Halo and Destiny.
Early impressions from the Server Slam beta (Feb 26 - Mar 2) have been mixed. The game reached a peak of 143,621 concurrent players on Steam as of 2/27/2025, but player reception has been divided. Some praise the gunplay and art direction, while others cite concerns about clunky default controls, a steep learning curve, and the divisive nature of extraction shooter mechanics.
Clarification 3/7/2026: If the Metascore is tbd, market resolves to < 50.

@makoyass Definitely a shame. I think being in the 70-79 bucket is fair but I'm sad to see the game debut on the low end of it. I've put in about 15 hours so far and I've had a fair bit of fun. I can't speak to the longevity of the game, but none of the reviews can.
