
I have heard this claim. I don’t know if it’s true. Gonna look into it. It has to be below .5% or above 1.5% and if it is on the border exactly I will flip a coin.

@Reddealer I have just heard the stat so many times and I’m more concerned about like whether the federal government is spending one percent on it rather than the market actually being the size of one percent of the federal budget.

i'm sure it depends on definitions/choices so i wouldn't be too confident either way but IIRC while "1%" is the right ballpark, by most standard ways people count this it's a bit lower, more like 0.5% - 0.75% ish, which is nowhere near a couple of basis points of tolerance. (but there's no single way to count numerator or denominator so i'm sure there are definitions that push it >1%)
@Ziddletwix I hadn’t considered this. Hmmm. I think that I will change the definition. It has to be significantly different than 1%. It has to round to 0.
