@strutheo Yes it is. Government departments have to be created by an act of Congress. It could become a government department, but as of now it has been described as a blue ribbon commission, and it's definitely not currently a government department.
@njmkw Trump's own announcement specifically refers to it as "outside of government". Trump could change his mind, or give Vivek a different post, or etc, but there's no real ambiguity that currently DOGE would be a government department. it's entirely outside.

@Blomfilter Trump explicitly says that this is "from outside the government". As stated, I don't see why this would count as a "government position".
