Maybe it depends on what the supply of rice is like, how pre-washed or dirty it is already.

@AlanTennant I was under the impression that it's not about "dirt" but about dust that is created from the rice grains rubbing against each other. Washing the rice doesn't "clean" it but make it less sticky.

@AlexanderTheGreater ahh, interesting. Stickiness can be good, guess it depends what texture one is after.
