I have chosen a chess position. Can you guess what the best move is?
The position is puzzle-like position based on an engine self-play game starting from a prescribed opening, where black has deviated from the engine line in a way that allows white to gain a game-winning advantage. It is white's move and there is only one best move in this position.
The board is partially hidden, as follows:
- All of the squares containing pawns are revealed.
- All of the squares containing non-pawn pieces are initially hidden.
- A randomly chosen selection of empty squares are also initially hidden.
- Hidden squares are represented by a circle.
The purpose of this market is to guess what the best move in this position is. There's a sister market for guessing where the hidden pieces are here: https://manifold.markets/moobunny/where-are-the-hidden-pieces-in-this
Guess the best move by adding answers to this market, representing the move in algebraic notation (i.e. Nf3, Qh8, exd5). Only one guess per person; invalid answers added beyond your first valid answer will be marked invalid and will resolve NO. Check and capture notation will be ignored, so Qxf6+!! will be treated as the same move as Qf6. (This is different from my previous puzzle!)
Each day, around 2 PM Pacific time, I will reveal new information as described in the sister market. This market will resolve immediately when the last option in the sister market resolves. It will resolve to the correct move if it's been added, or "Nobody guesses the best move" if it hasn't. The person who posted the winning guess will get a prize of M25 per hidden piece at the time the guess was posted, so earlier answers get a bigger prize.
I will not bet in this market.
Salted MD5 of the position for verification: 7fafcfdb794e1a785fffa12d31df6077
Happy hunting!
Update 2025-11-24 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): The hidden position is after a single move of black's away from the engine line (not multiple moves).
@moobunny when you say "black has deviated from the engine line in a way that allows white to gain a game-winning advantage", do you mean that the hidden position is after a single move of black's away from the engine line? Or possibly multiple moves?
