🚨🚨🚨 A wild CosMcs has appeared 🚨🚨🚨 [image]Here’s where things get tricky, I’m only planning to be in Houston and Waco on my trip next month (and cities further south). It’s a 1.5hr trip from Waco to Dallas, each way. I only have a single day in Waco, and have never been before. I’ve been to Dallas before. Will I want to try a CosMcs badly enough to burn 3+ hours, and a day in Waco, just to try it? Will a third CosMcs appear before I leave in Texas (Apr 23rd)? Things just got more interesting.

@mattyb planned out my day-to-day yesterday, and yea, I’m gonna try for it! Waco seems less interesting (esp. because the Rangers are out of town) and my next day is Waco -> Austin, which is only 90mins of driving, so I can afford a Waco morning, if I so chose.

While further away from where I’ll be, another CosMc’s has appeared! [image]I’m leaving for the trip in two weeks, and feeling pretty cosmic myself

I am a big novelty fast food fan. Short-and-simple will I visit a CosMc’s by the end of 2025?

Facts which may influence your bets:

  • I live in San Francisco now, and occasionally drive >=2hrs from the city for random things. I do not plan to move.

  • I love novelty fast food things and once added 2hrs to a 12hr roadtrip to visit a Popeyes buffet. I’ve driven 6hrs to go to a White Castle in college. I really want to visit a CosMc’s.

  • I travel around the US somewhat frequently, a few times a year, and am lively to visit PA + VA, Los Angeles, and maybe TX in the first portion of this year.

  • There is only one CosMc’s location now, and I don’t plan to be anywhere near there.

@mattyb How was the experience?

for those who can't see the image

@nikki yeah why is that happening lately? I thought it was just me but a few markets have had empty images - when I click the empty space it acts like it's opened something but there's nothing there

@shankypanky heic is half-supported on whatever you're running react on

@nikki oh damn. i wish apple made it easier to upload as a JPEG

@Nikos it was pretty good! it seems like McDonalds is trying to compete with both Starbucks and your local boba shop here.

The experience was a bit unexpected. I was picturing a typical fast food setup, with a standalone building, with a drive through, but this was in a glorified strip mall. There were a bunch of security guards outside, who served as a greeting committee, which was odd.

Once inside, it was a basically fully black entry room with some giant McDonalds ordering screens again one wall, and their “kitchen” partially open in front of you. From what I could see, it was all a variety of juices and supplements.

I ordered their signature drink (this one), assuming they’d do that well, and they did! It was like $5, comparable to Starbucks’ drinks, and had chunks of dragonfruit in it. I didn’t really mix it, so I ate most of the dragonfruit bits last.

Anyways, I probably come back here again (if this wasn’t 1k miles from my house), this was a nice afternoon treat. Next time maybe I’d add boba, or one of the other myriad of combinations

I think the biggest factor is whether the Texas locations will be built before your trip. My guess is that because these are new, it will probably take longer than the usual 3-4 months to build them, so maybe 30% that one is built in Texas before your trip?

1y

@Nikos Texas trip is planned and happening in April

@mattyb Yeehaw! 🤠

We’ll see if they are done construction by then! 🌌🥤

@shankypanky Market about whether they'll be on time:

1y

maybe TX in the first portion of this year.

Can you say a bit more about this trip? It looks like they are opening 10 locations in Texas this year around Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio. Is your trip going to be around those locations?

1y

@Nikos San Antonio, yes, that is likely on the trip’s agenda, but this one isn’t planned yet
