When Nintendo releases their next generation console "Switch 2", there will obviously be some games available right at launch day.

Resolves YES for all games available for Switch 2 on it's release day. Games which were available on other consoles but not on Switch 1 also count.

Resolves NO for games which appear later or don't run on Switch 2 at its release or were already available on Switch 1.

For remakes/remastered games it might be hard to judge. To avoid a mess, let's exclude them. I'll resolve them NA immediately.

Retail or digital does not matter.

Close date might be extended.

  • Update 2025-05-10 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): The creator clarified how to interpret cases where games already available on Switch 1 receive additional content (e.g., new chapters) at the Switch 2 launch:

    • Such additional content is viewed similarly to a DLC or patch, rather than making the game a new game for the purposes of this market.

    • Therefore, the game (including the new content) would still be considered as 'already available on Switch 1' and resolve NO.

  • Update 2025-05-10 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): When determining if a game was 'already available on Switch 1', particularly for titles that had a prior version on Switch 1 and are releasing an updated or expanded version with Switch 2, the creator will consider the following factors:

    • How official sources (e.g., the game's website, developer) describe the Switch 1 version (e.g., as a 'demo') versus the Switch 2 version (e.g., as a 'launch').

    • A change in monetization between the versions, such as a transition from a free version on Switch 1 to a paid version for the Switch 2 release.

These aspects will help assess if the Switch 1 version constituted the game being fully 'available' or if the Switch 2 version is treated as the game's effective 'launch' for this market.
