In northern Italy there are three autonomous regions, as officially recognized by the state: Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Trentino Alto Adige (Südtirol), and Val d'Aosta (Vallée d'Aoste).

These regions enjoy greater autonomy in the management of revenue from local taxation and manage a larger share of local services directly.

The other regions (Piemonte, Liguria, Lombardia, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna) are so-called ordinary statute regions (regioni a statuto ordinario) and have a lower degree of autonomy from the central government.

Municipalities at the border between ordinary statute regions and autonomous regions can elect to switch from one to the other. This happened to the town of of Sappada, who transitioned from Veneto to Friuli Venezia-Giulia. A preliminary step is holding a referedum among the population of the municipality. A handful of municipalities held one in 2007 (Cortina d'Ampezzo being the most notable one).

Further details including the case of Sappada, the motivations and the procedure for transitioning can be found e.g. here.

Will resolve YES if at least one municipality will officially transition to an autonomous region after today and before midnight Dec 31, 2030.

Will resolve NO otherwise.
