YES

My 20th birthday is on April first, my goal is to run my first ever Marathon before then.

I will resolve yes if I have run 42.2 kilometres before the beginning of April. How long my run takes doesn't matter (although my goal is under 5 hours). I'll use Strava to track my run and show that I have really run a marathon. If Strava stops working I'll use a different app.

Some information about my running ability:

Since 2018 I've tracked about 95% of my runs on Strava, here is my Strava profile:

https://www.strava.com/athletes/35219030

A short summary of my profile:

I have never run a marathon before but done two half marathons. My personal best for a half marathon is 2:15:01. I have walked 36 kilometres before. Since September 2018 I have run 935 kilometres during 194 runs.

I will not bet no on this market and won't ever sell any of my yes shares.

Summary of my run, if anyone is interested: 👍
My plan was to run along the Rhine river until I reached Cologne, and then take the train back. There were signs along the Rhine indicating that it was 31km so it seemed doable. I thought I could make it to Cologne without planning a route beforehand. I also knew that my phone might die during the run, because of the GPS.

After around 14km, there were large industrial areas along the Rhine that blocked my path. So abandoned the river and randomly ran northwest for about 10km before heading back to the Rhine hopefully north of the industrial sites, so could continue along the river, but I ended up exactly at the same industrial site as before 🤣 . (BTW the dollop episode about the New York to Paris car race has to be the best thing to listen to while running, nothing motivates you like hearing about cars going 1 mile per hour, also super funny). Then I got lost again a couple times until I found a road going north. After 33km, my phone died, so I took a bus to a train station. However, the station wasn't in operation so I took another bus to the central station, then I took a subway home. But, I fell asleep and missed my stop. I then boarded another train to go back to my place but I accidentally got on the wrong train. It went in the direction of my apartment but wouldn't get very close I still had to walk around 4km. Along the way, I found an old bike without a saddle and rode it home. I made and ate some pasta, charged my phone, and then ran the remaining 9km. Finally, I went to bed at 6am.

@TimothyCurrie I'd highly recommended a running watch (esp Garmin forerunners cuz you can have music, Bluetooth connects, maps, gps, etc with high precision) if you don't have one. Mine lasts 2 weeks on a charge easy and physical buttons are super nice for running (acts as a touchscreen smartwatch otherwise).

I wanna try longer runs but stuff like getting lost etc seems a bit scary BUT DUDE day was quite adventurous, it's inspiring to read about and makes me wanna go run random directions lol

Man I'm bad at insider trading.

predictedYES 2y

@TimothyCurrie Actually I did ok.

@TimothyCurrie and you did splendid by completing the marathon. So freaking awesome. As an amateur runner, this is soooo cool.

@firstuserhere I think it is debatable if what I did really counts as a marathon, because my phone died after around 33k and then I had to do the last 9k multiple hours later after I had reached my home by train and recharged my phone. So I was basically forced to take a really long brake, but for me its good enough. Thanks😂

You did it! Congratulations!

Congrats dude, well done

Did a couple more runs but hurt my left foot. : (

predictedNO 2y

@TimothyCurrie what are your symptoms?

2y

@Lily While doing 30K after about a third it hurt whenever I put pressure on my left foot. So I walked most of the rest. It quickly got better over the next two days, but still hurt a little while cycling. Now its perfect again. I think if I had done more stretching it would have hurt less and I am also planning on buying insoles for my shoes because I am not currently using any.

predictedNO 2y

@TimothyCurrie nice! if it's the outside part of the foot, try rolling out the tibialis (muscle on the top outside of your shin). (and of course icing, hip stretching, etc)

Ok, so far, in the last two weeks, I have run two 10ks one 5k and one 15k. I'm planning to run a half marathon today.
A few days ago it was snowing while I was running and that was not nice but now it seems spring has finally come, the nicer the weather the more likely I'll continue running.
