I shipped a bunch of stuff from me (Ireland) to me (Netherlands). I shipped 7 boxes, all of which were dropped off at a post office in Ireland on July 25th. The first three packages arrived at their destination on July 29th. Three more got delivered on August 1st. One package remains. According to An Post's (Irish post office) tracking page, the package arrived in the Netherlands on July 28th (as did the others), but there haven't been any updates since. PostNL's (Dutch post office) tracking system is not yet aware this package exists either.
In checking the boxes that did get delivered, I noticed that some of the printed stamps were on the wrong boxes, so I thought maybe the problem is that the stamp on the missing box was too cheap, but in that case I wouldn't have expected the package to have made it out of the country.

This is why you should buy airtags and attach them to the items you're shipping to yourself (you could track them v well without waiting for updates like this)
@jskf idts, people do experiments where they hide an airtag and ship the package to north korea or other weird places and when the package takes a weird route or gets delayed, they ask for explanations from the carriers and its quite funny how its all justified
Contacted PostNL again:
Goedemiddag.

Good afternoon. I can imagine that you are disappointed that you have not yet received your shipment. On 28.07, your shipment arrived at Customs clearance at Schiphol. There are very long delays in customs clearance. Unfortunately, the shipment has not yet been released. I hope you will receive your shipment at the end of this week / in the course of next week. I apologize for the inconvenience.
@jskf So the package didn't come yet? Have some faith... I'm not betting on 2024 at all for instance.
@jskf I'm glad that research I did actually lined up with my predictions. Since they (claim) they know it is at customs I am going to bet it's likely you'll get it before the end of the year but only hedge you'll get it it this week.
"some of the printed stamps were on the wrong boxes, so I thought maybe the problem is that the stamp on the missing box was too cheap, but in that case I wouldn't have expected the package to have made it out of the country."
Meaning, one of the packages might have a different amount of money and be returned to sender?
@jskf
Here might be some good news but I don't know how accurate it is or whether the information is stale:
https://www.spring-gds.com/support/international-service-alerts/
"Parcels with destination the Netherlands can be delayed due to high consumer demand linked to preparations for the summer season."
"Preparations," are the preparations over? I don't know...
@jskf Is it possible it is stuck in customs in the Netherlands? That might explain why it would show arrived in Netherlands but PostNL has no tracking info on it yet.
@parhizj Yeah that's also an option I thought of. Probably more likely than the other one, but I still would have expected an update on the tracking page, or to have been contacted about it.
@jskf I have bet, but I could not find any base statistics on lost parcel statistics (they don't want to advertise I assume), so I was forced to rely on their own customer satisfaction metrics in PostNL annual's report (98-99% in last few years). I think the most likely scenario is it is delayed in customs since there is no tracking information on it with PostNL, and I am guessing PostNL doesn't have that information yet in their tracking system so it's not aware of the package being delayed there. (Reading random threads on reddit I get the impression it could be delayed multiple weeks)
If PostNL has no info and you are anxious with free time, you might also contact Douane to see if you can confirm it's delayed there, but from reading online, there is basically nothing you can do right now but wait.
