one but only because I have pet shrimp and I would defend them against a human assailant

if I save a billion shrimp, I can surely bargain with them to take half of their lives and sell them as food. That should net at least $100 million, with which I can save many other human lives. Easy arbitrage opportunity

How many shrimp are there in the world?
or is it only those that are healthy and young?

Perhaps eliminating the species hints at genocide and might be worse than not saving one human but I am not sure of the number so it is much easier to choose not to vote.

Why do all the tastiest animals like shrimp have to be forbidden?

But what if the human has a voracious appetite for shrimp?

I dislike humans and have nothing against shrimp, so one it is, but it depends on the circumstances.

@skibidist should've added lizardman

@notrealDonaldTrump You'd be disturbed if you knew how well thought out my position is.

@skibidist Go ahead

I value human life. I do not value shrimp life except to the extent they impact human life.

People die from starvation. Shrimp have calories. So sure, I’ll save some arbitrarily large number of shrimp to use as calories. But it’s got to be a big enough number that I actually believe saving that many would make a meaningful impact on global food prices.

@MRME I think this was meant in EA contest in which they are concerned about very inhumane conditions for the shrimp

Depends on the human

I think if you set the number of shrimp you prefer to save at a million or higher, you’d drive shrimp extinct to save a few lives.

@JohnSmithb9be well, once the population becomes small enough then they get some extra value as an endangered species, since most ppl consider biodiversiry to have some inherent value.

Also, if each shrimp life has positive value then we need to consider all the future generations of shrimps, which won't exist if you exterminate them. (Same for future humans ofc, but who has kids these days...)

Bottom line, if it saves 10,000 human lives I'm happy to wipe out all the shrimps forever. Less than that I'm not sure

@JohnSmithb9be I think we're abstracting away from this given the undecillion option etc.

A higher number / I'd always save the human

Why no "I'd always save the shrimp"?

@notrealDonaldTrump I think voting 'One' implies this, right?
