Assume the shrimp and person are healthy and young, with full lives ahead of them.
People are also trading
I value human life. I do not value shrimp life except to the extent they impact human life.
People die from starvation. Shrimp have calories. So sure, I’ll save some arbitrarily large number of shrimp to use as calories. But it’s got to be a big enough number that I actually believe saving that many would make a meaningful impact on global food prices.
@MRME I think this was meant in EA contest in which they are concerned about very inhumane conditions for the shrimp
@JohnSmithb9be well, once the population becomes small enough then they get some extra value as an endangered species, since most ppl consider biodiversiry to have some inherent value.
Also, if each shrimp life has positive value then we need to consider all the future generations of shrimps, which won't exist if you exterminate them. (Same for future humans ofc, but who has kids these days...)
Bottom line, if it saves 10,000 human lives I'm happy to wipe out all the shrimps forever. Less than that I'm not sure
