@jacksonpolack market closed, this should be NO—AFAIK, the current setup is that you start with 100M (so you can in fact place bets without phone verification), and phone verification gives you more bonus mana. (Recent meeting notes confirm this, as they plan phone verification to be required for many of the bonuses, but the bar set here was whether you could place any bets).

@jacksonpolack can this resolve?

bought Ṁ10 NO

James says he disabled it on April 29th, instead giving a bonus. So right now it seems to be not required.

temporarily disabled it for influx of new streamer users

I closed this question for you. I just removed the requirement to signup, and is only necessary to receive the startup bonus

So if I make an account without a phone number, do I start with M$0 or M$100? If you literally start with zero mana, I think that's ambiguous and idk how i'll judge that, but if you start with a small but nonzero amount, then it'll resolve no if that lasts for a month

@jacksonpolack You start with 0. You can click around but that’s it. You’ll have to either buy mana or verify your phone to get mana. Noone can send you mana either

I'm still going to call that requiring phone verification, thanks for closing

bought Ṁ20 YES

lol

@jacksonpolack At least we got our answer.

Is "for all new users" contingent on unlocking a certain part of the site? Like, if I can create a new account with no phone number, but can only do a tiny subset of actions?

if you can browse but can't bet that still counts as requiring verification

@jacksonpolack I think the other side of this question, about allowing non-Google sign-up, is more interesting. Any good markets about that?

opened a Ṁ100 NO at 40% order

@Eliza Personally, I would not have given a phone number and a Google account when I signed up, but if I was able to sign up withOUT a Google account if I gave up a phone number, I may have done so.

@Eliza there's 0% chance I would have signed up if a phone number/verification was required
