The film received critical acclaim, particularly for the direction and lead performances, especially Stone and Ruffalo, and was named one of the top 10 films of 2023 by the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review. I liked Oppenheimer, but I think the case for it winning best picture is if it's an overall unremarkable year and the academy decides it's Nolan's "turn". KOTFM seems poised to be just the kind of movie the academy loves though, and there's plenty of other options that could be surprise sensations as well.
