Will resolve to the questions that manifold.love users answer >70% of the time. I may not include questions on the list, but in order to be selected, the question must be included in the questions list (if you submit something crazy we might not include it, and won't resolve to 'Other'). We'll be pulling from okcupid questions and others that you suggest!

On a scale of 0-10, how important are religious beliefs to you?

It's unclear to me how a secular person should answer this.

@Shelvacu I was raised atheist. I’d answer 6 because I wouldn’t date someone super religious, but don’t really care if they do have a religion

For the question "What is your gender?". I would suggest, by order of importance/ease of change:
1. Replacing "Male" with "Cis male", and same for "Female → Cis female". It avoids confusion around whether "male = cis + trans", with "trans male" only being a subset, or implications that there are the "real male" and "trans male"
2. Using "man" and "woman" instead of "male" and "female". Male and female sound too much like biology course
3. Using aesthetics name only: Masculine, feminine, androgynous/other. The gender related dimensions people mostly care about is physical appearance, so physical aesthetic fits this. If they care about the other person genitals, you can put it as another optional question.

Also IMHO questions 10 through 24 should be optional-but-strongly-recommended instead of mandatory (and only questions 1 through 9 should be mandatory) to reduce the barrier to entry.

@duck_master the idea of the site is to be pretty thorough, though! And not everyone has to create a dating profile, you can just be a bettor.

The options for both questions 2 and 6 should be "cis male" and "cis female" instead of just "male" and "female" if we're willing to make the cis/trans distinction.

On the default questions, for the sake of being more concise:

  • move vegetarian and vegan question into one question. My sense is basically no one has veganism as a hard requirement, and if the point is to sus out whether you’re part of the same tribe and can eat at the same restaurants, just one is fine.

  • I would phrase the “do you have kids” as just “how many kids do you have” where the default is 0

You might also want to include somewhere a “would you be willing to relocate” question. Imo people should move more for love.

In terms of more advanced questions, I think what I would care about is sussing out important big 5 traits. For relationships, conscientiousness is basically good (and extraversion too but to a lesser degree), and neuroticism is basically bad, regardless of the partner (it seems intuitively like there should be some exceptions to this, e.g. given that I am messy it’s good that Austin is also messy so we don’t fight about how our room is a mess, but I’m not sure the data bears that out). And though the data doesn’t support this either, I also have a strong intuition that being aligned on openness is good.

So anyway, questions for getting at these traits:

  • Do you enjoy philosophical conversations?

  • Do you enjoy going to art museums?

  • How neat is your room?

  • How many hours do you work per week?

  • Is it important to you that people be on time?

  • How satisfied are you with your life?

  • Does your mood change quickly?

  • Are you extroverted? (no need to dance around this one, I feel like people have a good sense of this and don't bend it to look better)

I’m confused about some of the questions you suggest, are they all taken from OKCupid? If so I’d be curious about how they iterated over time or whether these were just the ones they came up with, because some don’t make much sense to me, e.g. how often do you keep your promises, how willing are you to meet someone in person (shouldn’t people who say no to this just not be allowed??), how often are you open with your feelings, do you care about your parents’ opinion of your partner.

And are all of these multiple choice, as opposed to free response? Are you planning on having any free response questions? If you are, some I like are:

  • What quality do you value most about yourself?

  • Which of your habits conflict with your values?

@rachel Thanks for the feedback and questions! Absolutely would love free response questions. I just checked out a few lists of the most popular, OK Cupid questions and copied and pasted them to get us started. I’ll probably leave out any questions that don’t make sense on a second pass or that we get a fair amount of negative feedback on.

Questions they answer most? Like what percentile?

@Joshua What do you think of >70% of the time?

Sure, makes sense.
