What with current events and all, gasoline prices have been going up [Citation needed]. Before the Iran war started, gas prices around me were in the $2-3 range, but over the past few months, the prices have been sitting in the low-to-mid $4 range. Will gas prices break the $5 line where I'm at for long enough that I'm forced to buy at that price?

I'm going based on the price given at the pump, not including sales tax that is calculated after pumping. Basically, I'm going off the advertised price, for reasons of laziness.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure when/how gas tax is calculated in the united states. Ṁ25 prize to the first person to explain it to me in the comments. My main questions are if gas tax is applied on top of the advertised price, similar to groceries; Which level of government applies the tax; and how large is the gas tax? If you tell me something else surprising/interesting about gas taxes, I'll double the prize

I buy gas somewhere in the neighborhood of once a week, but if there has been a large spike in price, I tend to wait a few days to see if it'll come down again.

I'm currently in Utah, and plan on moving to Nevada in the next few months. I will not bet in this market
