This has happened, 8k in wave 1, 9k in wave 2, and 17k net so far. I will soon resolve the market in a day or so unless someone has any objections?
increased from 10 to 18k in Jan, additional 9k today : https://www.reuters.com/technology/amazon-lay-off-9000-more-workers-cnbc-2023-03-20/
I believe of the recent 18000 number, 10000 already happened in November. Or at least announced then. Not sure if they were laid off immediately, to what will it resolve if it is not clear exactly how many of the layoff happened in Q1 vs before?
@fela the 18000 is the plan of net headcount reduction, originally estimated to be 10,000 in November. However, the layoffs and restructuring process is going on now and probably will stabilize middle of Feb. As for the market resolution, it will close at the end of the quarter and once data is available to clarify exact numbers, we'll resolve this
@firstuserhere thanks, though exact resolution criteria are still not 100% unambiguous to me. From your message I deduct that it is not the high level decision that has to happen in Q1, so is it the date they actually stop working that matters or when the employees themselves are informed that they personally are affected, or something else? And also, if we cannot find certain data to confirm the exact criteria does it resolve as N/A, as NO or to what you think is most likely true?
@firstuserhere What data are you looking for exactly? Apparently they didn't report exact numbers from previous layoffs either.
