BREAKING: At tonight’s NYC-DSA electoral forum,
committed to voting against “any spending on arms for Israel, including so-called defensive capabilities.”
@Quroe best ground is no country should fund their weapons. If they pay for it themselves, they may be more interested in peace and diplomatic negotiations, as they would be less likely to create conflict as a dollar spent there is a dollar less for stuff like infrastructure, education, healthcare
Also it would encourage citizens in Israel to want peace
In usa, many oppose the war not just due to the moral problems, but also because it is expensive. More Israelis may oppose their countries awful foreign policy if they felt the cost of it
@Jack1 Do you think this way specifically about Israel because of what they are currently doing? Or would you also not give money to Ukraine on the same grounds?
People voting no, I wonder the reason? Personally I am not in USA so it doesn't bother me from a 'waste of money' perspective(if the money was redirected to humanitarian aid Id be fine with that)
I don't think any country should pay for Israel weapons
They need to pay for it themselves so they are pushed in a more peaceful direction
I assume some would vote no because they are Americans who want to keep the money at home and it's not an Israel thing specifically?
@Jack1 2 years ago I would be in the "yes, fund" camp but after everything that happened it's unjustifiable. The thing is, if you defend a country infinitely they will act as if it's true. Ideally we would want every country to be able to defend their civilians, but we also do not want the cost of going to war to be too low. RE humanitarian reasons: it's not like we're giving defensive weapons to Iran
