On 19 November 2024, telecom industry analyst Earl Lum claimed that T-Mobile USA has increasingly grown frustrated with Nokia's radio access network (RAN) equipment, suggesting the carrier would drop Nokia as a vendor. Verizon and AT&T, T-Mobile's main competitors in the United States, announced their intention to transition off of Nokia in 2020 and 2023 respectively. Nokia and T-Mobile published a joint statement on the same day as the post which included the following, emphasis mine:
“T-Mobile works with both Nokia and Ericsson on our RAN, who have helped us over the years build the largest and fastest 5G network in the nation. We continue to work with them on ensuring our customers have the best mobile network experience. We have made no decision to end our working relationship with Nokia, and any reports in the media implying this are untrue."
In order for the market to resolve to "Yes", T-Mobile USA must announce their intention to completely remove Nokia as a RAN vendor regardless of timeline. This announcement must be public, such as in a press release or any other forum that the general investing public could have access to.
