Resolution criteria
Mamma Mia! 3 has not been officially confirmed, but producer Judy Craymer stated in May 2025 that "we know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen." The market resolves YES if a theatrical release of Mamma Mia! 3 occurs anywhere in the world by December 31, 2028. Resolution will be verified through major film databases (IMDb, Box Office Mojo) or official Universal Pictures announcements. The film must be a theatrical release; streaming-only releases do not count.
Background
The original Mamma Mia! earned $609.8 million at the box office in 2008, while Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again grossed nearly $400 million worldwide in 2018. Amanda Seyfried confirmed in March 2025 that the film "is going to happen in Greece, hopefully before 2038," with filming potentially beginning in summer 2026. Paul Feig, director of The Housemaid, has officially signed on to direct Mamma Mia! 3.
Considerations
Amanda Seyfried suggested in March 2025 that Universal's schedule with Wicked 2 may affect timing, noting "it's an either/or situation with musicals." Additionally, Craymer confirmed there is an existing script for the film, indicating the project is in active development rather than early conceptual stages.
