Must be 1:1 scale, walk at movie speed, and be fluent in over six million forms of communication, or at least every form of communication that can be enumerated at time of resolution.

How many "forms of communication that can be enumerated" would you say there are right now?

  1. It needs to not just be a helpful droid somewhat like C-3PO, but be explicitly designed to be a replica?

  2. It would need to be able to interpret and produce signed languages?

predicts YES

@JimHays Yes and yes. And this is very possible! I could see it even happening this year.

Obviously that last part is a bit of a joke, but seriously for resolution does it need to speak independently of control (Alexa-level), or be more advanced (GPT-level), or just a speaker and a human at a microphone? And does it need to know multiple languages? 2? 10?

predicts YES

@TobyBusickWarner Yes, that part is a bit of a joke. What I'm getting at is whether it could more-or-less perform the basic functions of a protocol droid in the Star Wars universe as applied to our present reality. I would expect it to be independently autonomous, as in more advanced (GPT-level), assisting as an intermediary in communication, etc.

This is theoretically possible today, but I haven't seen anyone build it.

Am I missing something here? Humanoid robots that can walk already exist, and low-data unsupervised machine translation also exists. you could make this today?

predicts YES

well, "you" meaning a decently sized well-resourced team, but things get easier as time passes

predicts YES

@jacksonpolack You could! I haven't seen a fully functional replica yet though
