Gallup polls Americans on their confidence in American institutions, publishing results every summer (see 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021).
The number of Americans who report a "great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in newspapers has declined from an all-time high of 51% in 1979 to 18% in 2024, the second lowest score after 2022's rating of 16%.
