Background
Lionel Messi captained Argentina to victory at the 2022 World Cup and remains one of the most influential players in the national team setup. Whether he will participate in the 2026 tournament has been the subject of ongoing discussion due to his age, fitness, club commitments, and personal decision regarding another World Cup appearance.
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has repeatedly indicated that Messi's place in the squad would largely depend on Messi's own desire and physical condition heading into the tournament. As of the creation of this market, Messi remains active in professional football and continues to be considered a potential member of Argentina's World Cup plans.
Traders should evaluate factors including Messi's health, playing time, international appearances, public statements, and Argentina's squad selection trends as the tournament approaches.
