I’m a meat eater, but I avoid a short list of specific animals (eg pork, octopus) due to ethical concerns.
Should people in this category avoid eating shrimp specifically? That is, is there a case that shrimp farming is much worse than the farming of other meat/fish?
I mostly see people discussing shrimp size here (having to kill a lot of them for one portion of meat.) I agree this is important but I’m already familiar with the arguments. I’m more interested in hearing about shrimp specific factors like eyestalk ablation and ammonia in tanks. (I’m leaning toward cutting out farmed shrimp because of the former, but I’m curious what other people think.)
almost definitely. relative intelligence is a lot lower than octopus or pig but multiplied by the amount dead per serving meat is probably much higher unless your opinion is basically “below a certain threshold value is 0”
same logic probably applies to chicken and fish tbh the only satisfying conclusion i had for myself was just to go vegetarian
