Resolution criteria

The 2025 TCS New York City Marathon takes place Sunday, November 2, with the elite men's race starting at 9:05am. The market resolves YES if Eliud Kipchoge finishes first among all male competitors. Results will be verified via the official NYRR website at https://www.nyrr.org/tcsnycmarathon or ESPN broadcast coverage.

Background

Kipchoge is an 11-time Abbott World Marathon Majors champion with wins in Berlin, Tokyo, London, and Chicago, making his highly anticipated TCS New York City Marathon debut—the only Major he has yet to race. The former world record holder holds the fastest personal best in the field with a 2:01:09 from the 2022 Berlin Marathon. However, Kipchoge most recently placed ninth at the Sydney Marathon in August.

Considerations

Defending champion Abdi Nageeye and 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Benson Kipruto are considered safer bets to win, and given Kipchoge's age and recent ninth-place finish in Sydney nine weeks ago, it would be impressive if he can even make the podium. Kipchoge will face stiff competition from defending champion Abdi Nageeye, former TCS New York City Marathon champions Evans Chebet and Albert Korir, as well as 2024 Paris Olympic bronze medalist Benson Kipruto, and 2024 London Marathon champion Alexander Mutiso.
