@SimonGrayson This is why I dont do live betting when Im watching on a free stream that's lagging by 2-3 mins lol
@firstuserhere fr. cant even complain about stream lag considering i am watching it for free. i feel people on the tv probably have much slightly better chances in these markets
@firstuserhere I panicked when that message popped up… I thought that pub I was watching this in was showing the game live, so I was worried the message meant I was 90 seconds behind!
@firstuserhere Great, thanks! Looking forward to the season.
For games, you keep the close after the game end, right? I’ve liked the stock/crypto daily markets where the betting closes a bit before the outcome is decided. Might be interesting to do similar for soccer.
@Tyler31 yes I'll go through them all and keep close time at least for an hr after match ends because I might be busy just at the close time. Expect me to resolve them either immediately after match is over or at a delay of ~3 hrs
@Tyler31 that's an interesting setup for sure but not sure if it'll work for sports. Might try it out on a small set of markets before everywhere
@firstuserhere Please don't, live betting is the most interesting thing about the soccer markets and the last minutes are the most fun :)
@NamesAreHard probably won't change for football markets. I already close markets early for other things to prevent manipulation at last moment or to prevent more reward to late betters more than early betters sometimes
@firstuserhere I feel like there's actually a compelling argument for the existence of both a 'close before game' market as well as a 'live' market, since some people want to be rewarded for predicting without babysitting while others would like to live bet.
@Charlie How would you feel about a poll attached to a market? i could do that. People vote for who they predict will win and then trade according to the match itself.
@firstuserhere Well, then they don't get an actual payout unless they live bet, no? Poll is just for funsies? Like, it can be a bit of a tough sell to pre-bet on a sports market that I know I won't be live betting, since live bettors will take my lunch. Ultimately it comes down to whether or not there's enough demand for a specifically non-live market that you'll get enough distinct bettors to break even.
Edit: you can take this all with a grain of salt, because I'm not a habitual bettor on these types of markets. I just know that when I do find myself wanting to bet, sometimes I think twice for the reason described.
@Charlie I dont care about breaking even by getting enough betters. I'm happy to run any experiment. Pick 1-2 matches you want, I'll run markets on those with both pre-match and post-match close
@firstuserhere Arsenal vs Manchester United seems like a big one! Tomorrow's Man City vs Newcastle also but that's shorter notice. Again, more thinking through the hypothetical value of this distinct type of market than arguing that it deserves to exist. For example, sometimes I buy emotional insurance on a game I'm actually attending but don't want to have to worry about getting out my phone and selling my shares if the result appears to be going my way.

How would live bettors take your lunch? The markets are fixed payout, so live betting doesn't affect your earnings in any way.
@NamesAreHard Mmm. Maybe what I mean is that in a live-betting market, there are many more opportunities to minimize losses and maximize profit off of your pre-bet. So while the payout is the same in either type of market if you do nothing, it feels suboptimal to make a trade before the match and leave it there when there's something you could be doing about it. Whereas in an early-closing market, there's really nothing I can do once the match kicks off, so I can just sit back and hope for the best just like everyone else. I guess it's purely psychological?
