The Sotheby's auction house in New York is about to auction off a very valuable necklace from David Morris (a famed London jeweler). Link:

David Morris An Exceptional Sapphire and Diamond Necklace

Sotheby's gave it an estimated value of 3,000,000 - 5,000,000 USD. This market resolves YES if the final sale price listed on the Sotheby's website is >$5,000,000.

Resolution details:

  • Example from a past auction: this unmounted diamond lists "Lot Sold

3,871,500 CHF" on the Sotheby's website. This is the equivalent number I will use.

  • Note that this final listed sale price typically includes the buyer's premium.

  • If the lot is withdrawn before the auction, or it fails to sell, this market resolves NO. It only resolves YES with a listed sale price from this auction of >$5 million.

Yikes. That did not go well. It attracted a few bids, but must not have cleared its minimum reserve, because no sale is listed. Resolves NO
