Resolution Criteria
This market resolves YES if I successfully establish and launch an Effective Altruism group in the Delhi NCR region that meets the following criteria:
The group is registered or listed on the EA Forum's local groups directory
The group has held at least one in-person meeting or event
The group has at least 5 active members who have attended meetings
The market resolves NO if none of these criteria are met by the specified deadline.
Background
Effective Altruism Delhi already exists as a registered local group, though the EA movement faces challenges in engaging students and young professionals in India, with barriers including lack of awareness and conservative college authorities. EAGx India is back for its third consecutive year in December, bringing together EA community members in Delhi. There are significant numbers of tech and policy workers in India who represent a potential audience for EA community building.
Considerations
While only 5% of EAs first hear about effective altruism through groups, 23% report their group was important for deeper involvement, and group members are disproportionately likely to take the Giving What We Can pledge or change career plans for EA reasons. Funding for group activities is available through the Centre for Effective Altruism, so resource constraints need not be a barrier to launching.
