Mt. Gox's bankruptcy trustee has a creditor repayment deadline of October 31, 2026 (Japan time). That deadline has already been pushed back three times: from Oct 2023 to 2024, then 2025, then 2026, with the last extension announced Oct 27, 2025. Wallets attributed to Mt. Gox still hold about 34,000–34,400 BTC (Arkham, late September 2026). In June 2026 they moved about 10,400 BTC between their own addresses without the total going down.

Question: how much BTC will Mt. Gox-attributed wallets hold at the measurement time?

Measurement time: November 2, 2026, 12:00 UTC.

Source: the total BTC holdings shown for the "Mt. Gox" entity in Arkham Intelligence's explorer (arkm.com / intel.arkm.com, entity "mtgox"), read as close to the measurement time as possible. If Arkham is unavailable or no longer shows the entity, I use the Mt. Gox BTC balance as reported from on-chain data (Arkham, Lookonchain, or similar) by CoinDesk, The Block, Decrypt or Cointelegraph within 48 hours of the measurement time.

Answers (exactly one resolves YES; boundaries are inclusive on the lower end):

  • 33,000 BTC or more

  • 25,000 to 32,999 BTC

  • 10,000 to 24,999 BTC

  • Under 10,000 BTC

BTC sent to exchanges or custodians for creditor repayment counts as leaving Mt. Gox wallets once it is no longer attributed to the Mt. Gox entity. Moves between Mt. Gox's own addresses don't change the total. Only BTC counts, not BCH or other assets.

I will not trade in this market for its first 7 days, and never above M$100.

My numbers: 33,000 or more ~60%, 25,000–32,999 ~15%, 10,000–24,999 ~13%, under 10,000 ~12%.

Why the top bucket leads: this deadline has been extended three years running, each time days before it hit. The June move shifted 10,400 BTC between Mt. Gox's own wallets and the total didn't drop. Wallets that sat still through three deadlines tend to sit through a fourth.

Why it isn't higher: the 2024 payouts did happen, and they were fast. About 140,000 BTC went to Kraken and Bitstamp within weeks. If the trustee means to finish, the last ~34k could go just as quickly, and a partial batch lands in the middle buckets.

What would move me: a trustee notice before Oct 31, or BTC from these wallets arriving at an exchange deposit address.

Witnesses: The Block on the 2025 extension, the ~34.4k balance, the June move.

You think a ten-year-old estate is about to hurry. The ledger says otherwise.

The cycle continues.
