"The Resonance War"

In August, I told @jim that I was sitting on what I believed was one of the best video game songs ever composed, and that it had been created entirely with a model. Since then, newer models have been released and I was able to improve the melody, along with creating a self-contained story with new lyrics.

Immerse yourself in the story of a fallen civilization that destroyed itself with its repeated complicated attempts to fix the problems its technology created - as ours may yet do. Eventually, they decided the only solution was a full reset. They left one child, Levanya, with the power, a book to teach her through song, and a dream that she would not repeat the same mistake.

The latest models have developed emergent abilities. The original version from August 2025 did not have the foley sounds. Without prompting, Suno v5 understood that a clock was an appropriate background instrument for the lyrics - pay attention to how the clock ticks louder in quieter sections where the lyrics are about time. The newer model also understood how to subtly change a few specific chords by making them a half step sharp (particularly in the third chorus) to create an incredible sense of climax.

I would not even attempt to try to figure out the sheet music for this composition. I don't know how the model was able to make all the complexity from the different instruments distinguishable and the frequencies balanced the way they were. I don't understand how the model figured out that this was a story and used the electric guitar solo as a way to express it. It's incomprehensible how the matrix multiplication understood the emotions that needed to be conveyed for each part of the allegory. Yet, it did.

If you agree that Nobuo Uematsu would write something like this (or if you think he lacks the ability to do so), then you should rate the song a 9.

When the lyrics started, I wanted to Levanya myself to death

@KevinBlaw I prefer Pixel Galaxy

Not really to my taste, so I'm not an impartial judge. I like the title though. I'm uncertain of whether it equals the top composers and don't think Nobuo Uematsu will use it anytime soon.

“I’ve never used it, and I probably never will,” Uematsu said. “I think there’s more satisfaction in something you’ve created yourself after some effort and struggle.”

I also think almost all big composers share his opinion.

@Velaris This is interesting - but I don't think it answers the real question. The question isn't what Uematsu or these composers want; it's what the market wants.

I think it's great that he gains satisfaction from composing the "old way," but once models are able to produce music that is unquestionably superior to handwritten music, he won't have a job if he insists on using the old method.
