Context:

• 60 Minutes had prepared an investigative segment titled “Inside CECOT” about harsh conditions at the CECOT prison in El Salvador where hundreds of Venezuelan migrants deported under the Trump administration were held. It included firsthand testimony from recently released detainees about brutal and torturous treatment.

• The piece was pulled hours before it was scheduled to air on Sunday night after being promoted and listed in TV guides. CBS said the story “needed additional reporting” and wanted on-the-record interviews or added context.

• 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi pushed back strongly, saying the story had passed legal and editorial reviews and that the decision looked like politically motivated censorship, not an editorial judgment.
