The US House of Representatives is currently without a Speaker.
The Republicans hold a majority in the House, but their candidate for Speaker doesn't have the votes to get elected.
There was a floor vote on Tuesday. Jim Jordan lost.
There was a floor vote on Wednesday. Jim Jordan lost by a slightly larger margin.
There was suposed to be a floor vote on Thursday, but it was called off once it was clear that Jordan wasn't getting any additional support.
Will there be another vote on Friday? If there is, will it be followed up by more votes?
Resolution criteria:
This applies to floor votes where members vote for named candidates. Procedural votes, votes on whether to vote, yes/no votes or votes to give the Speaker Pro Tempore more powers do not count. Votes that only include the Democratic or Republican caucuses rather than the whole House do not count.
Any vote which starts before midnight local time counts. In the unlikely event that they stay in the chamber late into the night and start a vote after midnight, that won't count for this market.
@dittopoop I'll wait until there's definitive confirmation to resolve - everything that's going on is so crazy that it wouldn't be that shocking if they said that they've changed their mind and there's going to be another vote in a couple of hours.
But yes - it's looking that way!
