CGP Grey announced about a month ago that he is restricting his comments to Bonnie Bees (patreon supporters)
Will 3 more Popular YouTubers have implemented comment paywalls by 12/31/2023 11:59 PM UTC?
"Popular YouTuber" is defined as a youtuber with at least 500K subscribers on any one of their channels, and average (mean) of at least 100K views on their the last 5 videos they posted that are over a month old, or their 5 most recent videos if they don't have 5 public videos that are over a month old. (If they haven't posted at least 5 public videos, they don't count as popular)
"comment paywall" is a system where you are forced to pay a fee to have any of your comments shown on the YouTuber's videos. It must apply to at least 2 separate videos posted by them, but not all videos. If it only applies to some users, it counts if the group that can post comments without paying is <10% of their active viewers, which I will evaluate to the best of my ability. For example, if only the youtuber's first 500 subscribers can post for free, that would still count, but if anyone whose username starts in the first half of the alphabet can post for free, that would not count.
Resolves YES if:
In the comments, Manifold users have provided me with examples of at least 3 YouTubers who have implemented or continued comment paywalls (excluding CGP Grey, of course) at any point after this market was created. They do not have to still be in effect by the close date. The resolution if this is not provided, is NO, as it is (nearly) impossible for me to check every 'Popular YouTuber' to see if they had a comment paywall at any point after market creation.
Resolves N/A if:
I can't determine whether a system counts as a comment paywall.
Resolves NO if:
The above criteria are not true.

is this even possible? I can see that CGP Grey have a lot of videos you need to pay to watch, but I've never seen a public video where the comments were prompting me to pay
EDIT: Yes. It's possible... In a round about way.
Imagine auto deleting comments by people who aren't paying you on patreon. Unreal LOL
@Gen Not exactly sure how, but there is no built-in feature for this. I'm pretty sure CGP Grey has youtube set to automatically hold all comments for a moderator to look at, and then only approves people who have paid.
@Shelvacu Yeah I just edited my comment as you replied. I am surprised by that method, and it seems like a terrible idea. I doubt many other creators will emulate it.
I'm guessing once enough people know their comments won't be approved, they'll stop trying, and it will negatively impact their engagement stats. Unsure though.
If I learn of any more Popular YouTubers using comment paywalls, I will list them here (manifold users includes me):
