Toronto implemented a vacant home tax last year. The deadline to submit is February 29, 2024 but the exact numbers aren't released until months later.

[Last year](https://archive.is/7RmhB#selection-4839.99-4839.304):

2,161 homeowners declared that their properties were vacant for more than six months in 2022 and subject to the tax, an additional 17,437 homeowners had not even bothered to file a declaration as of Aug. 1

Thus the total unoccupied units totaled to 19,598. Will this amount increase this year as more units are built in Toronto and counter-intuitively kept empty? Or will the taxed have incentivized more owners to sell or rent-out their place?
