Resolution criteria

This market resolves YES if construction on runway extension and related infrastructure at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to enable jet operations has begun by the closing date. Construction is defined as physical work on the runway, taxiways, terminal, pedestrian tunnel, or other airport infrastructure directly required to accommodate jet aircraft. Preliminary planning, environmental assessments, legal proceedings, or land acquisition alone do not count as construction. Construction that does not enable jets will NOT resolve to YES. Resolution will be verified through official announcements from the Toronto Port Authority, City of Toronto, Ontario government, or Transport Canada, or through credible news reporting of active construction work.

Background

Jet aircraft are currently banned from Billy Bishop under its operating agreement, with the exception of MEDEVAC flights. In 2026, Ontario Premier Doug Ford raised the topic of allowing jets at the island airport and announced plans to take over control of the airport, with plans to expand its runway for jets under discussion.
