Additional players qualifying through play-ins will be added to the list. I will be adding the names of the 8 players who qualify through play-ins.

The event will determine a single winner, with tie-breaks applied if necessary. For more details, visit the official tournament page: Chess.com Classic 2025.

  • Update 2025-05-21 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): The creator has clarified the structure of the final stage to determine the tournament winner:

    • There will be a first Final.

    • The winner of this first Final will then play the winner of the Losers' Bracket in a second Final (Grand Final).

    • The winner of this second Final will be the tournament winner for the purpose of this market.

  • Update 2025-05-22 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): For the Grand Final between MVL and Carlsen, the following win condition applies:

    • MVL must defeat Carlsen twice to be the tournament winner.

    • This means:

    • If Carlsen wins their first match in the Grand Final, Carlsen is the tournament winner.

    • If MVL wins their first match, a second match is played. MVL must also win this second match to be the tournament winner.

Magnus makes it look so easy. MVL was not up to the task today. Congrats to @rednamlooc @FabioTran @SentientTree Well done.

Okay, it has come down to MVL vs Carlsen.
Remember folks, MVL has to beat Carlsen TWICE to be the winner. But he did play inspired chess today.

Magnus vs Hikaru tomorrow -- in the first Finals. and then there will be a second one with the so-called Losers Bracket winner playing this winner.

Tomorrow (05/21) Carlsen vs Nodirbek, and Nakamura vs Nepo.
(Gukesh and Pragg have been eliminated.)

The image above shows the Losers bracket for tomorrow.
