I'll be trying SLIME MOLD TIME MOLD's "Low-Dose Potassium Community Trial" throughout November.

I am a 25 year-old man who weighs approximately 164 lbs at steady state.

The completion criteria here are:

  • My weight measured on Day 1 of the trial will be compared with my weight as measured on Day 30 of the trial. If it has reduced 5% or more, the answer is "YES". Otherwise, it is "NO".

  • My weight on Day 1 was measured as 164.7 lbs.

  • Therefore, if my weight as measured on Day 30 is 156.5 lbs or fewer, this resolves as YES.

  • I will follow the trial procedure outlined in the post, starting with 330 and increasing to about 1300 mg of Nu-Salt daily.

  • If I fail to complete the 30 days or change the trial procedure substantially, I will choose N/A.

  • I'm not going to intentionally change other parts of my behavior to influence the weight.

Final weigh-in was 162.3.

I have created another market for this topic:

Day 1 is here. I weighed in as 164.7 lbs, so this market resolves on Day 30 based on whether I weigh more or less than 156.5 lbs.

8.2 lbs in 30 days is a 930 kcal deficit, assuming it's entirely fat loss. I don't see any particular reason to expect the addition of magnesium to meaningfully reduce/change water retention (certainly not 8 lbs worth). Definitely possible you could end up losing water weight sufficient to meet this criteria, or changing your behavior (unintentionally, presumably) such that it happens, but as someone who has been on a >1000 kcal deficit for the last 18 months it's not easy to do accidentally.
