Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve to "Yes" for each specified year, if at least one of Lidl, Aldi Süd or Aldi Nord (or their respective successor entities) sell Category F2 fireworks (outdoor consumer fireworks with age requirement 18 years or above) in the majority of their stores on any day between December 28 and December 31 of the respective year.
Background
In Germany, the sale and use of Category F2 fireworks by individuals aged 18 and over are traditionally permitted during a limited timeframe around New Year's Eve. However, recent incidents have intensified debates over this practice. For instance, during the 2024/25 New Year's celebrations, five fatalities and numerous injuries were reported due to mishandling of fireworks, including illegal and homemade pyrotechnics. Additionally, emergency services faced attacks involving fireworks in cities like Berlin, Hamburg, and Leipzig. These events have led to calls from police unions and medical associations for a nationwide ban on private fireworks. (dw.com)
The market will close on December 31 to make sure I won't forget to resolve, and will then be extended for another year.
