Context: We dated for a few months several years ago. I ended the relationship, and they made several attempts to reconnect in the period afterward, but we have not spoken in a long time. I’m considering sending an apology and asking whether they would be open to catching up.
This market resolves to the option that, in my judgement, most closely describes the overall outcome within 21 days of my first contact attempt. If I don't reach out to my ex by the end of August 6 (a week from market creation), resolves to No contact attempt.
@traders My ex ended up replying to my message. The delay was because my ex was out camping. We exchanged a few messages about the trip.
@Parallax if, god forbid, they did block you, would you consider the whole episode as having a positive, negative, or neutral outcome?
@someoneR5c8l I don't think I could be very confident they have blocked me since resolution only three days from now. If they still haven't responded by the resolution date, I would resolve to "Neutral or brief exchange." We communicated for over a week and met in person twice, which isn't a negative outcome relative to initial expectations. But it's also not "Positive continued contact" if there is no response to my only message since they told me we are not getting back together.
@ChurlishGambit Going back to no-contact would be a disappointing end to my efforts to reconnect, but taken from the first message to the last, I wouldn't see things as negative. I think "Neutral or brief exchange" would fit the 10 days of communication better.
@traders Update:
While I was at work today, my ex sent me a message explaining that us getting back together is not going to work out because they are not interested in me romantically. My ex is willing to be friends and talk, so long as things are kept strictly platonic. I haven't replied back yet.
@Parallax do you intend to seriously pursue the friendship? You should not if your intention is to secretly win them over, I think. But some of my best friends are ex-es.
@JimAusman I agree, worst thing to be the tortured soul wanting more than is available. It doesn't have a happy ending.
@JimAusman I still want to reconcile, but I know at this point that that's not going to happen. I texted my ex and said that I needed some time to adjust emotionally, and I haven't texted my ex since. I'm not sure whether we'll end up being friends.
@TheAllMemeingEye It'd count as "neutral or brief exchange", since it'd be covered under the brief exchange half.
@traders Updates from our date:
We did not get back together today.
We went on a walk for about an hour and a half.
We held hands during the walk.
They said they need more time before we get back together.
We kissed at the end (they initiated it).
We did not schedule another meetup, and they are moving away in a week.
@Parallax are 'Romantic reconciliation' and "Positive continued contact' mutually exclusive? I guess, in the spirit of the question maybe Yes, as in, we would assume 'positive continued contact' to be 'maintaining some kind of amicable platonic relationship' but then...there is enough ambiguity I think for a resolution for both cases. I fail to see how a 'Romantic reconciliation' would not also count as 'positive continued contact'.
@PlutoGaming Perhaps one last hurrah (ONS) before the ex moves away in a week could be romantic reconciliation without positive continued contact?
Also, this market ends based on what Parallax feels in 12 days.
@PlutoGaming I'll resolve to "Romantic reconciliation" if we are officially back together at the deadline. I'll resolve to "Positive continued contact" if we're still in contact, but haven't resumed the relationship. Currently, we are not officially in a romantic relationship.
