I currently live in Washington DC and am leaning towards going to Manifest.
I think all expenses included it would cost me roughly $1500 to attend. I would like to buy an early bird ticket if I go, which is why the market closes soon.
My biggest interest in going would be to expand my network and get advice, as I’m looking to change the direction of my career. I am 24 and currently work a fairly normie DC job. It pays decently well (I give some money to givewell which I find rewarding) but the job has nothing to do with my career goals. My goal is to work in VC (high impact “deep tech” would probably be the goal) but I am probably in need of a “bridge” job or an MBA in order to get there. I have a BS in bioengineering but am not really using it at my current job. I would prefer to stay on the East Coast if possible, which I realize limits my options in VC.
I’ve gone to local EA and Prediction Market-themed events and have had fun most of the time. I also used to assist with organizing my university’s EA chapter, which I enjoyed.
I would regret going if I went and felt like I gained essentially zero insight into the direction I should push my career. I would hope to get to talk to at least a few VC folks.
Happy to answer more questions in the comments if helpful.
RESOLUTION CRITERIA
This question will resolve Yes if
A) I attend Manifest, and
B) one month after Manifest (roughly July 4 weekend) I feel like I gained relatively little insight into the direction I should push my career and I feel like I’m still on the same path as I was before. Insight could be someone knowledgeable telling me that “yes, you would probably need an MBA from a top school to get where you want to go”. Insight could also be someone I find trustworthy convincing me that my goal probably isn’t worth pursuing. Insight could also take some other form.
