If the US AISI institute closes down during Trump's second term, this question will resolve as yes.

@mods I believe this should resolve Yes. The AISI has ceased to exist under trump; it has been replaced by the Center for AI Standards and Innovation. The leadership (at least) of the AISI has been removed, and the (former) AISI director now works at Anthropic.

@CharlesFoster Shouldn't resolve no, IMO. I know someone on a standards committee there and they're still meeting and carrying on with their work. @MrR
@MrR I think this was resolved incorrectly. The statement by the commerce department pretty clearly describes CAISI as being a "transformed" AISI.
@CharlesFoster This question is not about it being gutted, it is about if the AISI will cease to exist. Which it has. I bet this one up higher than the "gutted" one since this seemed pretty darn clear cut (the AISI no longer exists and the AISI's leadership is no longer there).
@WilliamGunn Interesting! Are you able to share more about what day to day life is like there?
@Fay42 CAISI has a noticeably different mission statement than the AISI had, from that press release. If buy your car and use some of it's parts to make a different car (or more aptly in this case something like a boat), your car has ceased to exist (even if some of it's parts are still in use).
@RobertCousineau Lotta Zoom calls and document editing, from what I can tell. Any law or regulation has to have all the terms defined in order to be enforceable & that's what he's working on.
Basically this: https://www.cencenelec.eu/areas-of-work/cen-cenelec-topics/artificial-intelligence/ but for US-based regulation.
As best I can tell, the US AI Safety institute is likely to be shuttered in the near future. See this Kalshi market too: this market.
Trump rescinded Executive Order 14110, which established the U.S. AI Safety Institute (AISI).
There was some congressional work going on (HR 9497 and S.4769) and that would have formalized the AISI outside of the executive order, but that has not been enacted per my best understanding of the machinations of our government.
Here's to hoping I'm wrong!
