I keep debating black suits with a friend who has, to me, quite old-timey understandings of dress code.

Is highly acceptable in all formal occasions and all office work related occasions. Is mandatory for some. I think is a ridiculous and impractical throwback to the 1800s when it was common because back then it made sense. Works well on some people, like Lex Friedman, looks hideous on others.

I imagine it depends on what the people getting married think is okay.
