The Texas House voted down school voucher legislation during the last legislative session. However, Governor Abbott called a special legislative session to introduce the idea again through SB 1. The bill passed the Senate 18-13 but will likely face a contentious debate in the house.
Texas, being the largest buyer of school textbooks, could possibly change the face of public education in the US were this bill to pass.

@Marnix just to check: this is now a different special legislative session. Would this resolve NO even if it passes?
The Texas House has a perfect record of defeating school voucher bills. A unique coalition of Texas Democrats and rural Republican representatives has managed to shut down every bill to date.
Adding to this is the fact that Texas schools have been underfunded since the pandemic. Passing this bill would likely exacerbate these issues. With how well educated many Texas representatives are on this issue, it’s unlikely to pass now.
