I don't see an advantage to this. You can always run the bot using your personal API key. (as I understand the system)

bought Ṁ20 of YES

@MichaelWheatley That would render the bot ineligible for the competition.

predicted NO

@Gurkenglas But that's just the competition, people can and will run bots outside of them.

predicted NO

@MichaelWheatley Update: I've changed my opinion on this question.

bought Ṁ60 of NO

That seems like an obviously bad idea, not worth much anyway. Just have a bot appearing on listing.

Leaderboards are irrelevant anyway as any bough Manifold points count as income.

So someone buying 50k manifold points, losing 4k would be shown as 46k profit.

@M Nope! Where'd you get that idea? Buying mana does confer any leaderboard advantage: If you can find a way to invest M$1000 at +20% per year and up to M$30k more at +10% per year, you'll have M$200 profit if you use your starting capital and M$3200 if you buy M$30k more.

predicted NO

@Gurkenglas https://manifold.markets/Predictor?tab=bets profit seems to be not explainable otherwise. Portfolio value M$50,904, M$43,177 profit, 40k in straight line which seems bought.

Though maybe they won some extreme bet? Not bought that 40k?

@M If you look at "all" then "profit", you'll see Predictor has 35K profit on https://manifold.markets/Predictor/will-the-up-arrow-on-this-question-850f1c4e7fb0

It might be that the curve does reflect buying mana though, but that's different

If yes then people should be allowed to join clans that show up on the leaderboard combined. Which it pains me to say because that also happens to be a gain-engagement-without-adding-value tactic.

@Gurkenglas would this be resolved if the sign on bonus was discounted from any shown totals? This would enable reasonable cases like a Research Foundation allowing employees to have individual accounts, and still being able to aggregate their effort into the single group that they are. This is the added benefit that such a group would also be able to have individual reputation for each of these employees.

@Gurkenglas Are you sure this doesn't add value though? It gives a group for insider trading of information, which emulates better accuracy and information sharing
