Two ancient men were sitting by the sea. They knew they were going to die soon, but they wondered who would be first.

Lucius, aged 67, stood up and yelled at the sea: "Tell me when I will die!"

He turned around and saw three things: a white chicken pecking at some grain, a left-handed lute, and nine bottles of wine.

Then Marcus, aged 68, rose and yelled at the sea: "Tell me when I will die!"

He looked up and saw three things: an owl flying overhead, a beautiful rainbow, and four falling leaves.

The two men looked at each other and immediately realized what this meant.
