Background

Despite First Amendment protections, members of the press are often criminalized for doing their job. Journalists reporting protests can be charged with disorderly conduct, jaywalking or criminal trespass. Journalists who "ask too many questions" can be cited for interference or hampering of government employees or be subject to restraining orders. And journalists can be victims of assaults, equipment damage / seizure, or chilling statements.
