Including "Other," how many answers will this question have when it closes?

A duplicate of https://manifold.markets/market/how-many-answers-will-this-question slightly modified

If more than one answer is correct, the most restrictive of the correct answers will resolve to Yes. For example, if one answer is "An even number" and another answer is "Six," and there are six answers when the question closes, then "Six" would resolve to Yes because it is more restrictive than "An even number." And similarly, "A number divisible by 3" would be more restrictive than "An even number" if those were the only two correct answers.

If I determine that more than one correct answer are equally the most restrictive correct answer, then I will split the decision evenly between the most restrictive correct answers.

Don't add an answer that is equivalent to an answer that has already been added, i would not count it

Any answer that self refer the market to be correct is not going to count

  • Clarifications on Restrictiveness:

    • Variable values are considered less restrictive than static values.

    • Adding extraneous elements to an answer does not increase its restrictiveness for tiebreaking purposes.

    • If multiple answers are equal, the first added correct answer resolves to Yes, and subsequent equivalent answers resolve to No.

    • No answer is more restrictive than a single static value; adding variable conditions (e.g., "100 and...") does not increase restrictiveness.

    • The count of answer is going to be done once the market close, so you can edit your answer to actively influence the market

Clarification on Answer Edits and Tiebreakers:

If an answer is edited to duplicate the correct answer, priority will be given to the first answer that originally contained the correct value, not the first one that was later edited to match it. As the creator, I have access to the initial versions of submitted answers. This means I can verify whether an answer has been modified and will prioritize unmodified answers in tiebreaker situations.

info: currently there can not be more than 100 answer, manifold updates can cange this info

Nice. Some notes:

  • "I will split the decision evenly between the most restrictive correct answers" appears to conflict with "the first added correct answer resolves to Yes"

  • "you can edit your answer to actively influence the market"

    • So you can completely change the meaning of an answer? Like I could get traders to bet on an answer that appears to have some likelihood of being correct, bet against it, and then change it to something wrong before the question closes?

    • What if answers get edited to duplicate the correct answer? Is it the first answer that got edited to the correct value or the first answer that was created, regardless of when it got edited, that wins the tiebreaker? Does Manifold give you enough info to figure out your tiebreaker on this condition?

@AndrewKeen

thank you, i can clarify:

-"I will split the decision evenly between the most restrictive correct answers"

this will happen if two questions are considered both equally restrictive and correct but they are not the same

for example >10 <20 and >15 <25, with the final number of answer be 16. they are both equally restrictive and correct

-"the first added correct answer resolves to Yes"

this will happen instead if we have two answers that are the same or that imply the same number or condition

-"So you can completely change the meaning of an answer? Like I could get traders to bet on an answer that appears to have some likelihood of being correct, bet against it, and then change it to something wrong before the question closes?"

Unfortunately there is no way to block this in any market where questions can be added, the creator of the question can also edit it and this cannot be prevented in any way in the market settings

so yes these manipulations exist they are part of the metamarket

-"What if answers get edited to duplicate the correct answer? Is it the first answer that got edited to the correct value or the first answer that was created, regardless of when it got edited, that wins the tiebreaker? Does Manifold give you enough info to figure out your tiebreaker on this condition?"

regarding this part I thank you because I actually hadn't realized this thing. manifold allows you to order the answers by age but it doesn't update this information once modified so once an answer is created it remains old even if modified. Also as a creator I am informed of the creation of the answers with the initial information. So what I can do is check that the final answer and the initial answer are the same and give priority to unmodified questions

this isnt perferct, but bettern than nothing... i'm gonna update clarification now
