Note the close date is arbitrary and will almost certainly change. Resolves NO if I decide not to do it. Resolves NO if I don't get a signoff from the Manifold team. Resolves NO if I give up partway through. Otherwise resolves YES.
The gist of it would be:
Markets and posts get translated into ActivityPub-style posts
These posts can then be liked, shared across Fediverse instances
I will make a bot, which will
Each time a unique like/share is given, tip the associated market/post [1]
Each time a post is replied to, add it to the comments on Manifold, unless [2]
It is from an instance blacklisted by [insert instance with decent moderation policy here]
It is from a manually-blocked user
It is from a user that opts out via some flag
It has a privacy setting such that it shouldn't obviously be public
Footnotes:
Might require external subsidy, and the tip rate for each should vary. For instance, a share might tip in proportion to the account's followers
In order to look good, this will require some changes to the Manifold comment API
It would need to have features which are priveleged
It would need to allow priveleged users to comment with a different, not-taken username/displayname
It would need to allow priveleged users to comment with a different avatar
It would need to allow priveleged users to comment where their name links to a page other than their profile
I think this is worthwhile to pursue, and I've started a thread about it in the manifold discord

@MartinRandall the main problem is that Mastodon doesn't support embeds (as far as I can tell). I think there has to be some element of bridging if current features are to be preserved
