Congrats to Kasia 🧡 with the most spectacular finish ever
Vollering was definitely the overwhelming favorite, I didn't think 90% was crazy. First she lost the tour when she crashed and her team didn't leave her anyone helping, in fact went for the stage. And today, she had to fight against her own team again, they didn't help her, plus it's hard to expect that other teams like Trek and Arkea would work for Katya just because. And Katya cracked during the stage and then somehow find her legs again
I bought No on Demi pre-race at 75% but not a ton. I think 75% to 80% range was probably about right pre-race. The weird, weird, weird dysfunction within her team is something amazing to behold. If she had a team fully committed to her, I would not have bought No below 90% pre-race.
She really was an overwhelming favorite for this course.
Yeah, Demi Vollering 🧡 is undoubtedly the best rider in the world, and next year, with Évita Muzic, she’ll definitely sweep the competition and should be at 90%. In fact, if Wiebes had waited for her instead of sprinting for a phenomenal 8th place, she would have won. But Vollering underperformed today after her crash, and we should also factor in that her team is working against her.
I'm holding my No shares on Demi but not excited enough to buy Yes on Kasia. Maybe Puck will pull something off!
Curiously, Neve and Niamh both finished in around the same time today, so maybe neither Canyon nor SD Worx has an advantage on the team side? Seems like Canyon would benefit if they can drop NFB on the earlier climb. Who knows what will happen?
I don't believe in Puck, not even on the podium. She isn't a climber. For me it's a two way battle. SD Worx has shown that they don't have the team, but I don't think it's that important on Alp d'Huez, the speed is slow. Demi can still win, but chances should be a little bit lower than Kasia's since she hasn't shown her usual dominance after the crash. Demi in her usual form would be a no-brainer.
Reminder: The Tour started today in Rotterdam and will start in Valkenburg 🧡 on Wednesday, before heading to France on Thursday.
